To South Koreans, the members of Girls’ Generation are often referred to as “Goddesses of Soldiers” and are said to improve the moral of those serving in the military. North Korea has decided to give this tactic a whirl, and on the 25th of May they introduced their very own “beauty troupe.”
The unit within the North Korean military is made up of elite entertainers and like Girls’ Generation, many of the girls were picked during their childhood and trained extensively. Their job will not only be to perform and boost the morale within the military, but also to perform for the privileged class of their country.
Comments from netizens have been a mix of Girls’ Generation fans outraged by the comparison as well as people supporting the North Korean group.
